Ok, so you know you need to include everyone and make them feel important. Forgetting to thank someone is one thing – but saying the wrong thing altogether in Groom Speeches could be a complete disaster!

Think ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ or the most painful (and embarassingly funny) movie you have ever seen with a wedding scene and you definitely don’t want to be in that lead role:)

I really wanted to make sure I didn’t make any big mistakes, so I researched a number of great tips to help you avoid this any embarrassing situations!!! So what not to say in Groom Speeches?

A big no no is talking about your previous relationships. It might seem obvious, but there are believe me Groom’s that do it…..and live to regret it! You may just want to compare your wife favourably, but believe you me, if she’s anything like mine she will not appreciate it – especially on the most important day of her life! So just take this as sound advice!

A Classic Clip from Four Weddings and a Funeral!

You should also be very careful of of the words you use when you speak about your bride. You may think it is a good idea to include a slightly teasing joke but this is not the right situation for it. Just stick to saying what your bride would want you to say……. maybe a little safem but it works!

Avoid Alcohol at all Cost!!!

Ok, so you have prepared your wonderful speech (even better than mine hopefully!) but your number one worst enemy is alcohol. This has the potential to bring just about anyone down, making them say the wrong thing or the right thing the wrong way! I was really wary of this and decided to hold off having anything to drink until the speech was over. And I am glad I did!

A Few Other Tips

The best Groom Speeches are planned well in advance. They can then be developed and edited until they are spot-on. Without planning you have much less control of what you say. Luckily there are now plenty of sources of help online. I used one myself and I have included links for it to help you too.

Final point. It may be a great speech, it may include everything, but no matter how well you say things, going on for too long isn’t going to go down too well. Try to work on your speech so it doesn’t take an hour to deliver!

If you need some more help, I found a great resource online that can really help you to come up with a great speech. See below:
